Counseling for Children and Adolescents
I work with individuals, parents and whole families to address concerns from a Systems perspective.
The therapy I practice with children and teens starts with helping them feel that they are in a safe place, and feel supported, so that they may express their needs and concerns. I use a broad approach, including talk, play and art therapy, yoga, Voice Dialogue ("parts" work, which teenagers seem to really enjoy) and Lifespan Integration, a cognitive reframing therapy very helpful with trauma. I'm very interested in helping all my clients, their parents and families, develop healthy ways of managing the stresses of daily life. I work to help clients build better coping mechanisms and self-soothing for all kinds of situations or issues, and to find ways to connect with one's inner resiliency and ability to manage a range of difficulties.
Issues I work with vary widely, from divorce situations, school problems, anxiety, depression, challenges with social skills, self-injury, eating disorders and body image, and creating good inter-personal relations. I always attempt to "speak the language of the child," and work with the family and care givers to support a child’s individual treatment.
