Transformation

Life is a journey of awakening, and not only can we learn to witness this process with more heart and clarity, we can connect more intimately with our own life force, our Core Being, and our life's greater purpose . As a Registered Counselor with a Masters degree in multi-systems counseling, and a Certified Yoga Therapist, my practice suits those looking to discover an integrated approach to dealing with life's challenges and mysteries. Working with individuals, couples, families and groups, I am inspired by the wisdom of the body, and how the inner and outer obstacles we face can be addressed by working consciously with the interaction of mind, body, emotions, intuition and spirit. In this way, one begins to loosen the grip of old patterns, and to sense a new way of being in the present. (For more information specifically on Body Psychotherapy, feel free to skip to that sub-page.)

Helping others clarify their intentions and goals in life, understand and shift relationship dynamics, and work though unresolved issues, is exciting and rewarding work for me. I draw from a variety of therapeutic and coaching tools that deepen awareness to activate change, and have been influenced by a number of different styles of therapy, including the Body Psychotherapy models (especially Core Evolution with Sigmar Gerken), Family and Relationship therapies (Moseley, Schnarch, Gottman), Transpersonal Psychology, meditation and energy practices, and the ancient wisdom of Yoga Therapy. As a long-time spiritual seeker, yoga teacher and dancer, I find that modalities that keep us in the body promote grounded insight that catalyzes real transformation.

While I place a client's objectives as central to a process orientation, I am able to challenge a client's assumptions (acknowledging that ego is not a good catalyst for inner transformation), while offering feedback with a compassionate heart. My greatest goal, as both a psychotherapist and yoga therapist, is to enhance and support a relationship with one's Inner Seer or guide, one's inner voice of truth, to use as a compass in life.

My approach is especially helpful for but not limited to:

  • Discovering the stories that are causing one to feel "stuck"
  • Learning to experience and process life through the physical, emotional and intuitive bodies
  • Issues of anxiety-depression, body image, eating disorders, addictions of any sort, loss and grief
  • An inability to make changes or actualize one's potential
  • Exploration of the Soul's Journey or the Mythic Journey
  • Couples' and intimacy issues

I usually see clients in the private office or movement space of the Four Aims Center, but also do consultation and therapy by phone, which is surprisingly effective, even for working with the emotions. When there is the desire to go deeper in the healing process, due to the nature of my work, which can be provocative while respecting clients' boundaries, I highly recommend (and sometimes require), a commitment of 5 consequetive visits for both individuals and couples.

Fees: $90 an hour for single sessions
For a commitment of five or more sessions
over consecutive weeks the rates are $85 an hour:
$425 for 5 one hour
session
$530 for 5-1.25 hour sessions
$635 for 5-1.5
hour sessions

I do not at this time take insurance, but will do so as soon as I receive my license (scheduled: March-April 2010).  My licensing application and all requirements are being reviewed by the State of Washington, as of this writing.  I do work on a sliding scale for those in need.

About Kat's practice:

For Kat's professional bio, please click on the "About Kat Allen" button.

Because Kat understand the necessity of getting to know ALL parts of ourselves in order to change (not always a pleasant undertaking!), she knows the importance of working creatively and cooperatively with every client, as we all take different paths on the journey.  Kat enjoys taking a client-centered approach in her work, with the core belief that inner wisdom and light shines within everyone, even if it becomes obscured through difficult life circumstances or choices.

Besides working in the traditional talk-therapy mode (always an important component for "unpacking" one's issues and events, as well as getting to know one's stories and beliefs), Kat also facilitates "awareness experiences" incorporating any of the following modalities: movement, breathing, energy-sensation exercises, holding positions to amplify experiences, toning or vocalizing, and emotional as well as creative expression (ie: learning to express anger ina clean, healthy way). Branching out into "alternative" ways of experiencing and expressing oneself can be essntial when trying to "get unstuck" or move blocked energy, as well as opening a doorway to the Self one might never have known was possible.

She has personally experienced the healing power of the modalities she shares with others and remains diligent about Walking her Talk. As well, Kat
places high value as well on the hands-on, practical experience she gained in running numerous small businesses.
