Integrative Psychotherapy with Kat Allen

Awareness Healing Growth Transformation
|
Life is a journey of awakening, and not only can we learn to witness this process with more heart and clarity, we can connect more intimately with our own life force, our Core Being, and our life's greater purpose. My psychotherapy approach suits those looking to discover an integrated way of dealing with life's challenges and mysteries. Working with individuals, couples and groups, I not only believe, but have personally experienced, that developing the ability to witness yourself without judgment, connect with the "felt-sense" of the body (knowing your somatic identity), challenge yourself to acknowledge and work with your growing edges (shadow work) and move beyond perfectionism to embrace compassion for self and all beings, is key to a happier existence. Recent strides in the field of neuroscience have also contributed significant understanding to the process of counseling: since the body, brain-behavior, and the ability to relate well coexist, we're learning how important it is to re-wire our neural pathways to make profound changes in how we view our relationships and emotional lives.
My intention is to help clients become aware of and
change their "programming," the thinking patterns and belief systems
that cause suffering, and help them find creative pathways toward
healing. I help clients broaden their insight, resiliency, and basis for choice by utilizing the whole self. My integrated method helps you:
- Examine unresolved issues (present, past, Family of Origin, trauma)
- Learn techniques that help you develop more positive attitudes and greater self-esteem
- Learn to deal with your mood problems and negative thought patterns
- Learn techniques that expand your ability to sense and focus, bringing you into the present moment
For those interested in reaching for inner transformation, I help you:
- Work with unknown or troublesome inner material (discovered on your own or from feedback by others)
- Inquire into beliefs, judgments, desires, goals
- Understand the deeper impact of your thoughts, emotions and belief systems
- Discover your physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual truths
While I place client's objectives as central to a "process" orientation, I am able to challenge assumptions (acknowledging that ego is not a good catalyst for inner transformation), while offering feedback with a compassionate heart. I utilize a variety of methods in my approach, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy for individuals and couples, and mind-body approaches such as Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), Body-oriented Psychotherapy, yoga and mindfulness. I also appreciate the Voice Dialogue method, an awareness process that introduces us to different "parts" of ourselves, including our main "operating selves" and the disowned parts. As well, in my work as an Intimacy and Sexuality Coach, I am certified in the Medes method of Sex Therapy. By working consciously toward full integration of intellect, body, emotions, intuition and spirit, clients learn how to face inner and outer obstacles, to change their mental "programing" so that old patterns loosen their grip, and to sense a new way of being in the present. My greatest goal as practitioner is to enhance and support a client's relationship with their inner guidance system, the inner voice of truth, to use as a compass in life.
