Yoga with Kat Allen

Yoga consists of scientific principles governing the workings of the body, mind energy and spirit, and emphasizes the importance of a consistent personal practice in order to reap its greatest overall benefits. It consists of various practice tools, including physical postures (asanas) or movement, breathing exercises (pranayama), toning, chanting, visualization, concentration and meditation (dharana and dhyana), self-study (often with the aid of classic texts), reflection and personal ritual.  Restorative (yin yoga) practices that specifically aid the nervous system and energy centers are an important component for renewing vital energy.  As well, the idea of community support, or sangha, is an essential component of our Yoga.

It is my intention to offer well-rounded classes that cycle through all the limbs of yoga, offering students a chance to bump up against their physical, mental-emotional and spiritual edges, while cultivating compassion and a Witness Consciousness.

Having practiced yoga since 1979, and teaching since 1987, Kat considers herself extremely fortunate to practice the Yoga of T. Krishnamacharya, and his disciples: his son TKV Desikachar, his brother-in-law BKS Iyengar, and Pattabhi Jois of  Ashtanga Vinyasa (Power Yoga). She is particularly skilled in working individually with students while keeping the flow of a class intact.

In the spirit of traditional yoga, private instruction is highly recommended, whether beginning or advanced, to check-in and develop practices that are suitable for your present stage and situation in life.

"I have practiced yoga for many years, with many teachers. Kat is one of the best. Her teaching seamlessly integrates spirit, mind and body. She is lithe and strong enough to lead younger practitioners, and has the wisdom and compassion to be sensitive to older students. The sequencing in her classes has often enabled me to go past places I thought were barriers. She also graciously nurtures a healthy sangha."     Pat W.

Class Descriptions

Kat's classes are marked by superior sequencing, attention to breath and energy, flowing and held postures, a focus on balance for brain health, the safe practice of inversions, and meditation.  Beginners will find her classes very accessible, while experienced students will discover the ability to refine their awareness and be/work in an integrated way.

To move seamlessly into a state of allowing,
the state of yoga:

     Be in silence (practice meditation)
     Notice Positive Thoughts
     Sense an Unwavering Faith

Detach as best you can

Do what you love as often as possible
